Airfield Systems Maintenance Technician

Job Requitments:

The Airfield Systems Maintenance (ASM) ATSEP Technician is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and restoration of safety-critical Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and aviation weather systems in support of airfield and air traffic operations. This role directly supports systems that impact flight safety, airspace availability, and operational continuity at assigned Ministry of National Guard (MNG) airfields.

The ASM ATSEP Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance, fault isolation, testing, and system validation activities on CNS and weather equipment in accordance with approved procedures, technical documentation, and regulatory standards. The position operates within a regulated aviation environment and supports configuration control, documentation accuracy, and readiness for inspections, flight checks, and operational evaluations.

This role requires strong technical competence, disciplined adherence to procedures, and the ability to work independently or as part of a coordinated technical team. The ASM ATSEP Technician supports escalation, troubleshooting, and restoration activities and coordinates with ASM leadership, internal stakeholders, OEMs, and external technical entities as directed to maintain system availability and compliance.

Major Duties and Responsibilites:

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on safety-critical Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and aviation weather systems in accordance with approved procedures, technical manuals, and regulatory requirements.

• Conduct inspections, fault isolation, testing, calibration verification, and functional validation of CNS and weather equipment to ensure operational availability and flight safety.

• Execute structured daily, periodic, and post-maintenance checks, and validate system status prior to return to service.

• Troubleshoot system faults using technical documentation, test equipment, software tools, and diagnostic methods appropriate to regulated aviation systems.

• Support configuration control by documenting hardware, software, and parameter changes and ensuring updates are reviewed and implemented through approved processes.

• Accurately complete Equipment Maintenance Records (EMRs), checklists, logs, and supporting documentation in a timely and auditable manner.

• Support readiness for inspections, audits, flight checks, and operational evaluations by maintaining system condition, documentation accuracy, and configuration integrity.

• Participate in system restoration and contingency response activities, coordinating with ASM leadership and other stakeholders to restore services safely and efficiently.

• Coordinate, as directed, with OEMs, system integrators, and external technical support organizations to resolve complex technical issues or support upgrades and repairs.

• Comply with all applicable safety, security, and access requirements while working in controlled and operational airfield environments.

• Participate in peer review, quality assurance, and continuous improvement activities to identify recurring issues and support corrective or preventive actions.

• Perform other GDC ME duties as assigned in support of mission requirement.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Technical diploma or associate degree in electronics, communications, avionics, aviation systems, or a closely related technical field; or a combination of relevant technical education, training, and professional experience demonstrating equivalent technical capability.

• Demonstrated experience supporting, maintaining, or troubleshooting aviation communication, navigation, surveillance, or weather systems, or other mission-critical electronic systems in a regulated or safety-critical environment.

• Familiarity with operating in an aviation, defense, or safety-sensitive environment and an understanding of the importance of procedural compliance, configuration control, and documentation accuracy.

• Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, drawings, and system documentation to perform maintenance, fault isolation, and system validation activities.

• Experience completing maintenance documentation, logs, or records in a structured and auditable manner.

• Ability to work independently or as part of a technical team, follow direction from ASM leadership, and appropriately escalate issues impacting system availability or safety.

• Physically capable of performing duties in an operational airfield environment, including accessing equipment shelters, towers, control rooms, and outdoor sites, and working in varying environmental conditions as required.

• Eligible to obtain and maintain access to restricted and operational aviation areas in accordance with MNG and site security requirements.

Prerferred Qualifications:

• GACA-certified ATSEP, or previously certified ATSEP under a recognized civil or military aviation authority, with demonstrated experience supporting regulated aviation systems.

• Four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting, maintaining, or troubleshooting aviation Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and/or aviation weather systems.

• Prior experience working directly on safety-critical or flight-impacting systems such as radios, navigation aids, surveillance systems, weather sensors, and associated control or monitoring equipment.Formal technical training, certification, or qualification in aviation electronics, avionics, radar, navigation aids, or weather systems.

• Demonstrated detail-oriented work habits, including disciplined documentation, configuration awareness, and adherence to procedural and regulatory requirements.

• Experience performing component-level troubleshooting, fault isolation, and repair activities using schematics, test equipment, and diagnostic tools, rather than swap-and-replace maintenance alone.

• Experience supporting or preparing systems for regulatory inspections, audits, flight inspections, or operational readiness evaluations.

• Demonstrated experience coordinating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators, or external technical support organizations for fault resolution, upgrades, or system restoration.

• Familiarity with configuration management practices for regulated aviation systems, including documentation of hardware, software, and parameter changes.

• Experience working in multi-discipline or multi-site aviation or defense environments.
